JAMES VAUGHAN looked ahead to today’s big Championship showdown with Sheffield Wednesday and insisted: "If we play the way we can do, we will win."
While the Owls arrive chasing a fourth straight victory (12.30), Town aim to avoid equalling their 2006-07 sequence of nine league games without one.
Despite a below-par display, they came within a minute of taking all three points at home to Blackpool on Boxing Day.
And on-loan Norwich striker Vaughan insisted: "Our recent run isn’t playing on our minds – we just want to get back to the standard we set earlier this season."
One of inconsistent Town’s top performances came when they beat Wednesday 3-1 at Hillsborough back in September.
That was one of eight victories recorded so far, and Vaughan added: "It’s down to us as players to make sure we do the basic things properly as a starting point.
"If we step things up and play the way we can do, the wins will come and we will start climbing the table again."
Town are 15th, six places and seven points above the Owls, who lost seven in a row before their recent upturn.
Boss Simon Grayson pointed out: "They are playing with more confidence than they were a month ago, but we must make sure it is about what we do.
"We were disappointing against Blackpool, and after that kind of game, you want another to come along quickly, and this is a top match."
