Benik Afobe, the former Huddersfield Town loan striker who helped Wolves tear apart his old team, is being linked with Aston Villa.

It’s being reported that the Birmingham club are planning a raid on their West Midlands neighbours during the January transfer window.

Boss Tim Sherwood is eager for added firepower, and Villa are ready to spend big on a player Wolves say they value at £10m.

They paid Arsenal a reported £2m last January, and Afobe has notched 19 goals in 33 games for them.

The 22-year-old took this season’s tally to six with his double in the 3-0 win over Town, where he played on loan in 2010-11.

Former England Under 21 striker Afobe also had loan spells at Reading, Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons while at Arsenal.

Premier League interest has reportedly been high ever since he ended last season with 32 goals (for MK and Wolves).

Villa are third-bottom of the top flight after losing 1-0 at home to Stoke City.
