LEE CLARK refused to get carried away as Town returned to the League I play-off places for the first time in a month

The manager hailed the quality of the goals by Jordan Rhodes (22nd minute) and Theo Robinson (52nd) which provided the 2-1 win which put Town back above Colchester, beaten 2-0 at Exeter on Friday.

But Clark was frustrated by the “sloppy” concession of a 73rd-minute goal to Dean Keates.

“The move started right up in Wycombe’s own corner of the pitch and we had several chances to deal with the danger,” said Clark.

“Of course I’m delighted with the win. Any victory is good, and an away win particularly so.

“But from my perspective, there’s a little cross against this result because of the goal we gave away.

“We could have had the game wrapped up by that stage and we gave ourselves a nervy final 20 minutes.

“I’ve got a very frustrated young goalkeeper in Alex Smithies, but then I think all the players are frustrated because they all want clean sheets.”

Of his side’s goals – top scorer Rhodes’s 21st of the season was an overhead kick and Robinson’s 11th in as many starts a shot from the edge of the penalty area – Clark said: “They were of the highest quality.

“And as I said after the Leyton Orient game, when both of them were on the mark, it’s satisfying when both your strikers score.”

Town could be back in seventh by the time they take to the Galpharm pitch against Oldham tomorrow because Colchester play host to Millwall today (1.00).

But Clark insisted: “While we knew we would go back into the top six by winning, I keep saying that the only table that matters is the final one.

“The players are handling the expectation well and have got into a good position, but if we don’t keep on winning, that’s the end of it.

“We’ll just keep concentrating on what we’re doing and taking each game as it comes, starting with Oldham tomorrow night.”
