Adam Clayton is training with his Huddersfield Town teammates in Portugal amid claims Championship rivals Middlesbrough are poised to come back in with a fresh £1.5m offer.

It’s believed Town, who are being linked with Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom, knocked back a test-the-water £1m Boro bid for the 25-year-old Clayton, who cost £350,000 from Leeds two years ago.

Manchester City product Clayton has become a key man in midfield, winning the latest Town Player of the Year award.

Brighton, who made an unsuccessful bid last January, and Norwich are also said to be keen.

Boro are poised to sell former Town loan forward Lukas Jutkiewicz to Burnley.

Clayton, who played in Town’s 3-1 behind-closed-doors win over AEL Limassol on Saturday, has a year on his contract and is said to be happy at Town.
