Reading could have sold 13-goal top scorer Nick Blackman by the time they visit Huddersfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Sources suggest the 26-year-old is heading back to Sheffield – but this time to play for Wednesday rather than his former club United.

Salford-born Blackman left the Blades for Reading in a £1m-plus deal three years ago and is out of contract this summer.

The former Macclesfield Town and Blackburn Rovers man has made 114 appearances for the Berkshire club, scoring 22 times.

He was on target when Reading beat Town 1-0 in last season’s FA Cup third-round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Former Town boss Neil Warnock believes Queens Park Rangers, another of the many clubs he has managed, would be willing to sell Charlie Austin in the transfer window – but the striker may not wish to leave.

The 26-year-old, still on his way back from injury, has scored 10 goals in 16 Championship appearances this season.

He has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

“They probably should have sold him in the summer. I think they would sell him now,” said Warnock, who had a spell back at QPR in interim charge earlier this season.

“But I don’t think Charlie is in a rush to go anywhere as he becomes a free agent in the summer.”

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand placed a £15m valuation on Austin following relegation from the Premier League last season.

He hit 18 goals in the top flight last season and averages better than a goal every two games since joining Swindon Town from non-league Poole Town in October 2009.

He has also played for Burnley, who sold him to QPR for £4m in 2013.

Preston North End’s former Town manager Simon Grayson wants to add to his squad after extending the loan of Middlesbrough winger Adam Reach until the end of the season and bringing Aston Villa striker Callum Robinson back to the club.

The 22-year-old Reach, on target against Town in Preston’s 3-1 defeat the John Smith’s Stadium, joined the Lilywhites on a three-month loan in September.

England Under 20 international Robinson was on loan at Preston last season and spent the first half of this campaign at Bristol City.

Grayson has already signed Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after Jordan Pickford’s loan deal from Sunderland expired.

“We’ll try and improve the squad,” he said.

“We had good news that Adam Reach will sign for the rest of the season. It’s fantastic for Middlesbrough to allow him to come and the lad has done fantastic for us.

“And we are happy to re-sign Callum. He knows us and we know him. He had a bad time at Bristol and after speaking to him he is so determined to do well for us. He is hungry to prove he’s a good player

“I’m sure they won’t be the first of the signings we make over the next few weeks.”
