Reports linking Doncaster Rovers’ Richie Wellens with a move to Town are wide of the mark.

I understand Town are not interested in taking the former Blackpool and Leicester City midfielder, who is now 34.

Following the failed takeover bid by One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson, a lifelong fan of the club, it’s believed Rovers are in a state of financial flux and reports suggesting Wellens could be on his way – and possibly to Town – seem to have emanated from the Keepmoat Stadium end.

Wellens, of course, suffered the agony of relegation with Rovers last season and, despite his career experience, at 34 he does not fit the bill for Town in terms of recruitment.
