Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan could be on his way to Birmingham City in an emergency loan deal.

While time is tight as the loan deadline falls at 5pm today, the 27-year-old – who was born in Birmingham – is a target for Blues boss Gary Rowett ahead of their clash with Brighton.

Vaughan last appeared for Town as a second-half substitute under caretaker boss Mark Lillis in the 3-0 home defeat by Leeds United .

He was not considered by new boss David Wagner for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday because he hadn’t been able to do enough training , and that seems to have been the case again as Town have prepared for the home meeting with high-riding Middlesbrough.

Vaughan has not made a start for Town this season and was sent-off when he returned from injury against Ipswich in October. He has made a total of four appearances from the bench this term.

UPDATED: James Vaughan joins Birmingham City on loan until January

The former Everton and Norwich striker – told previously his contract would not be renewed – is in the final year of his terms at Town and a move away now would clear a decent chunk from the wage bill at the John Smith’s Stadium .
