Huddersfield Town have announced their fifth signing of the summer window, with goalkeeper Joel Coleman joining on a three year contract.

The 20-year-old came through the Academy system at Boundary Park, making his first team debut in March 2015.

And after securing the no.1 spot with the League One club, his performances have earned him a Championship chance with Town.

His signing is the latest summer deal for David Wagner, who has already added Michael Hefele, Chris Lowe, and Luke Coddington to the ranks, while Rajiv van La Parra's loan has also been made permanent.

The manager has made no secret of his desire to add additional talent to his squad, and Coleman won't be the last new name to arrive at the John Smith's Stadium this summer.

Paurevic has picked up valuable top-flight experience in Germany and Russia

Don’t know much about Ivan? Not a regular watcher of the Russian league?

Doug Thomson has prepared some info on him for your digestion...

He writes:

The former Croatian Under 21 midfielder, who worked under David Wagner in Borussia Dortmund’s second string, winning promotion to the German third tier in 2012, had two seasons at Fortuna Dusseldorf before joining Russian club FC Ufa on a three-year contract in 2014.

Early business an excellent sign

Fair to say you’re all fairly happy with Town’s business today.

Goalkeeper was a clear need, and more will follow, while Ivan Paurevic will bolster the midfield options - and add some serious height, as well as being familiar with Wagner’s system.

It all looks like good, solid, long term strategy from the club.

Early transfer business means the signings can bed in and have a full pre-season with their new teammates. Not only is it essential for learning what Wagner will demand this season and the way he’ll play, it also pays to have players working together and learning each other’s games as soon as possible.

Town aren’t finished for the summer yet, with a few extra pressing needs to sort.

But the start to this window promises much.

Having analysed his squad, Wagner has identified where he needs something different or an extra option, and the club have moved to ensure he has what he craves before the season starts.

Five senior players through the door, with the start of pre-season still more than two weeks away.

Exciting times.

A giant signing for Town...

Championship basketball tournament anyone?

Wagner: "A good physical presence"

David Wagner has been talking about his new midfield capture....

He’s certainly not messing around, this is the SIXTH signing of the summer (five first team) and Euro 2016 hasn’t even started...

Wagner said:

“I talked last season about needing a good balance between attack and defence.

“Ivan is a player who will help us do this.

“He’s a great team player, with good technique and football intelligence.

“He’s also a good physical presence in the middle of the pitch.

“Just as importantly, I know he is a great character from our time together at Dortmund.

“He will fit into our group very well.”

The big picture: Where are we now?

What does this signing mean for Town? The last goalkeeper to be recruited this summer? And end to the Danny Ward speculation?

Well, no and no.

Another keeper is on the radar and Coleman has lots of potential - but could be a long term signing.

The full story is here.

Bargain basement

Even if he doesn’t challenge for the no.1 shirt straightaway, this could prove a very, very good deal for Town. Goalkeepers traditionally mature later, and Coleman has racked up a lot more senior appearances than you would expect for a League One keeper of his age.

Busy summer expected for Town...

Value for money

If the £100,000 figure is accurate, then it is a startlingly good piece of business for a 20-year-old with lots of room to get even better.

David Wagner excited by his new signing...

The manager certainly sounds pretty happy with this piece of business...

Also interesting to note that he expects Coleman to challenge for the no.1 shirt, despite his age. How quickly he challenges will depend on Coleman himself as well as his competition though.

Wagner said:

“Recruiting goalkeepers has been a big priority for the Club in this transfer window due to Jed Steer’s return to Aston Villa and Joe Murphy’s injury. Joel’s arrival is an important part of this at First Team level.

“Joel will arrive at the Club to challenge for the number one position and with potential to develop into a fantastic goalkeeper. It is unusual for a goalkeeper aged 20 to have Joel’s First Team experience and he has shown lots of potential in his performances for Oldham, which we have watched closely.

“Obviously a goalkeeper must be excellent at the fundamentals of the position first - keeping the ball out of the net – but Joel’s ability with the ball at his feet is also ideal for our style of play.

“We’re all excited at working with Joel on the training pitch and in games for the next three years, at least.”
