Huddersfield Town head to Scunthorpe United on Saturday for their next pre-season friendly, but they will face an Iron side without last season's top goalscorer Sam Winnall, who has completed a move to Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old completed a medical and penned a three-year deal with the Tykes after newly-promoted League One side Scunthorpe accepted the offer for their star striker.

He struck 23 times last season to seal promotion from League Two for the Iron and replaces Chris O'Grady at Oakwell after the 28-year-old moved to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Winnall joined Scunthorpe only last summer after his release from hometown club Wolves but had just one year left on his contract at Glanford Park and rejected the fresh terms handed to him by Iron chairman Peter Swann.

After completing his switch, Winnall told the Barnsley club website: "I'm really pleased to have joined an ambitious club.

"I can't wait to get the season started.

"I'm excited about coming here and working under Danny [Wilson]."

Fellow League One outfit MK Dons were also reportedly interested in doing a deal for the frontman, but his future now lies at Barnsley.
