Kevin Sinfield could make his rugby union debut at Huddersfield YMCA’s Laund Hill ground on Sunday.

The former England rugby league captain is in line to feature for Yorkshire Carnegie in their British and Irish Cup game against Ospreys – held at YM’s ground as part of the Championship club’s strategy to play home games across the county.

Sinfield, 35, finished his league career less than a month ago – in Leeds Rhinos’ treble-securing Super League Grand Final win against Wigan.

His last RL game in Huddersfield saw Leeds snatch a last-gasp 20-16 victory over Huddersfield Giants to secure the League Leaders’ Shield at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The stand-off, who spent all of his 21 years at Leeds in the 13-man game, joined Yorkshire Carnegie on an 18-month deal but has only just begun training with his new teammates and wasn’t ready to feature in Saturday’s game at Bedford Blues, which Carnegie lost 22-21.

“Everybody’s aware I’ll make mistakes and get things wrong, but hopefully the positives I’ll bring will outweigh the negatives,” he said.

“I’m ready to get cracking, it’s very different but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun or I’m not going to make a success of it.”

Last season Laund Hill played host to Yorkshire Carnegie’s clash with Ulster Ravens, and in January 2016 Huddersfield RUFC’s Lockwood Park is due to be the venue for their match against Munster A in the British and Irish Cup.
