Huddersfield Under 7s not only got to be mascots for the first team but also to play on the senior pitch at Lockwood Park.

An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed seening the youngsters play at half time in the first team’s National III North clash with Stockport.

Using the changing rooms, match shirts and half-time oranges were all part of the routine which was a fantastic insight for the boys and girls aged five, six and seven.

Not only did they walk out with the senior players, but they also took a part in the pre-match minute’s silence as an act of remembrance.

When half time arrived the Under 7s took centre stage, playing a number of small-sided games in front of a grateful and encouraging stand of supporters.

The first team clinched a well-earned 27-21 victory and then were mobbed in the bar for autographs from some very excited juniors!

Lee Paxman, the first team manager, said: “This is what the club is all about, encouraging youngsters to get involved in the whole club at an early age.

“The youngsters were really excited and played really well. I am looking forward to seeing them progress through the club and one day walk out as first XV players.”

Tim Taylor, the Under 7s coach, added: “At this age it is all about letting the children have fun, enjoy the game and develop as players.

“It is great to see how quickly the children are able to pick up some of the skills and behaviours we expect to see. They were all a huge credit to themselves.”
