Hakan Dalbal of Longwood Harriers is a West Yorkshire Schools Cross Country champion.

While there were excellent performances from other Longwood athletes, Dalbal produced the outstanding run at Northcliffe Park in Shipley to take the Intermediate Boys title.

He was in storming form to cross the line first and, in the same race, Luke White claimed a very creditable 18th place as he is just getting fit again following a training break.

In the Year 7 boys race, Jack White was sixth, keeping up his steady improvement.

Longwood’s Niall O’Connell finished 12th in the Senior Boys race, followed by Nathaniel Stock in 16th.

At the Dewsbury 10k road race, there were five Longwood Harriers involved.

On a fast and flat course, many carry hopes of personal best times and the weather could not have been better.

First in for Longwood was fast-improving Peter Hoyle in 25th, with a personal best time of 34min 35sec, followed by young O’Connell, having his second race in as many days and finishing 73rd, but still recording a PB of 37-02.

Junior Elliott Thompson had a below-par finish because of a leg injury and was 230th in 41-17. In 620th place was Jim McCormack (3rd Vet O/70; 49-38).

Last in for the club was (Vet O/70) David Shelton in 1,032nd (65-32).
