Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway rider Pawel Idziorek has been making an impact on the international scene.

While the domestic programme took a break for the Bank Holiday, Idziorek travelled to Exeter for the climax of the Euro Club championships – this time racing in the colours of Polish team Ostrow as they faced teams from Torun, Leszno and Ipswich,

The Ostrow team consisted of Piotr Kasperczak, Idziorek, Marcin Kolata, Syzmon Kowalczyk and World Junior champion Bartosz Grabowski, and they came flying out of the blocks, winning the first four races off in the Grand Final.

The momentum faded and a last place, followed by two thirds and a win for Kasperczak, left Ostrow with 25 points and with a four point lead over Torun in second and Ipswich holding third on 18 points at the halfway stage.

Torun fought back in the third quarter of the meeting grabbing four wins to lead the meeting by one point going into the last four races.

With two races remaining there was only one point in it, but two wins for Ostrow’s Grabowski and Idziorek saw them over the finishing line as Torun’s challenge faded.

Ostrow won with 51 points to Torun’s 46, Leszno (36) took the third spot as Ipswich (25) struggled in the third quarter.

Team Heckmondwike travel to Manchester at the weekend for the Northern Knockout Cup.
