There were silver medals for Ed Clancy and his Great Britain men’s pursuit title teammates at the Track World Championships in Paris.

Former Holme Valley Wheelers rider Clancy, Owain Doull, Andy Tennant and Steven Burke, who had surgery on a fractured collarbone last month, clocked 3.55.087 in their semi-final with Germany (3.57.074).

Britain finished a woeful eighth in 2014, but responded well to the disappointment and a public rebuke from British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton.

New Zealand, the fastest qualifiers, provided the opposition in the final and the Kiwi quartet clocked 3.54.088 to Britain’s 3.54.687.
