The annual Huddersfield and District League badminton tournament, which this year saw a change of venue to Huddersfield University, had with 50 pairs competing for the mixed, men’s and ladies doubles titles.

The men’s B final was between Dan Whitworth, from Holmfirth, and Fred le Doeuff, of Royds Hall, taking the win over the father and son pairing of Chris and Josh Joynson, from Holmfirth. Whitworth and le Doeuff winning 21- 15, 21-20.

The mens A finals was between Oliver Platt and Liam Turner ,of Valley St James, and brothers Jon and Tom Ruston, of Holmfirth, with the Valley St James pair eventually coming out on top winning 21-20,17-21 and 21-18.

The ladies B final was between mother and daughter Hilary and Lucy Mosley, of Holmfirth, starting on +7 against the experienced Royds Hall pair of Jean Gledhill and Helen Lambert starting on -3 – the Holmfirth taking the title 21-12, 21-18.

The ladies A final was won by the Valley St James pair Samantha Jessop and Helen Fay who gave an 8 start to Deanne Whitehead, of Ossett, and Elaine Robinson, of Spen Valley. taking victory 21-17, 21-16.

In the mixed B final was won by Louise Nairn and Neil Coombes by 21-17, 21-18 against Hannah Wightman and Dan Whitworth.

The Mixed A final was an all Valley St James affair with the Division One pairing of Dennis Goodridge and Helen Calverley overcoming the second division pairing of Oliver Platt and Rachel Fay eventually winning 21-17 and 21-19.
