Huddersfield diver Lois Toulson described her Olympic experience as “amazing” despite missing out on a medal.

The 16-year-old from Cleckheaton , who represents Leeds City, finished fifth with partner Tonia Couch in the Women’s 10m Synchronised Platform final in Rio.

Toulson said: “It was amazing. It was one of the best competitions that I’ve done.

“I really enjoyed it and I’ve definitely got a lot of experience from it as well.

“I’ve learned you need to enjoy it. I really enjoyed that competition and we ended up getting a PB together so it shows that’s important.”

They GB pairing still had the chance to snatch a bronze medal with their final dive but couldn’t quite execute to the standard of previous dives.

China took gold, Malaysia silver and Canada bronze. Toulson and Couch finished fifth with 319.44 points after hitting a high score of 79.68 in the fourth round with a two-and-a-half somersault one-and-a-half twist.

Couch said: “I think we would have been more nervous for that final dive if we were in the top three on the way through.

“But knowing we were fourth or fifth, I just relaxed, had fun and got on with it.

“The competition was so much fun and it was great to do synchro with Lois.

“Some of the teams here have been competing together for years. We’ve been competing together for eight months so I didn’t want to go in panicking and we just wanted to give it our all.

“I felt so much more relaxed after Tom and Dan winning a medal. I don’t know why but I felt so different after yesterday and I was buzzing.”

While Toulson has finished her Olympics, Couch has another chance to medal in the 10m Platform, with the preliminary round on August 17.
