Home-club duo Lou Lister and Kate Mallin won a dramatic Ladies Doubles final at the Fruitypot Huddersfield Open tennis.

The Huddersfield Lawn Tennis & Squash Club members were up against Steph Carter of Thongsbridge and Amber Waffindin of Ilkley in an exciting showpiece.

Lister and Mallin lost the first set 6-3 but hit back to level 6-4 in the second.

The decider then went all the way to 14-12 for a decision in favour of the Edgerton-based pairing in a match to thrill the supporters.

In the semi-finals, the eventual winners beat Phoebe Suthers and Emma Wardle 6-0 6-1, while Carter and Waffindin defeated Lucy Margetson and Darya Osadova by the same scoreline.

The Men’s Doubles is heading for a truly cracking finale.

The final, which will be staged on Saturday after the singles have been played, will feature Pete Ashley and Mike Tolman against Martin Calvert and Ben Gudzalek.

Ashley and Tolman defeated Paul Jebson and Brad Bond 6-1 6-3 in the group, before knocking out Liam and Andre Earnshaw 6-1 6-0.

Calvert and Gudzalek beat Jamie McCormick and Sam Roberts without dropping a game and then had to work incredibly hard to beat Andrew Atkinson and James Keighley, 4-6, 6-3, 13-11.

Theodore Purkis from Gloucestershire won the 12 and Under Boys title in convincing style.

The No1 seed, who beat Theo Garton of Durham 6-2 6-3 in the semi-finals, took the title 6-1 6-4 against No2 seed Daniel Abernethy of Surrey.

Abernethy defeated Viktor Frydych of North Wales 6-1 5-7 10-3 in the semi-finals.

In the 12 and Under Girls final, No1 seed Daniella Kotara of Staffordshire beat Mia Sibley of Hallamshire (who trains at Thongsbridge as well) 6-4 6-1.
