There was a big win for Huddersfield bowlers in their final match of the Yorkshire Indoor Bowls League season, but they still missed out on promotion.

Huddersfield finished the season with a resounding 16-2 win over Harrogate.

Unfortunately for them Featherstone won their final match 18-0 to leave Huddersfield with another season in Division II.

It was disappointing for Huddersfield whose highlight of the season was hammering the eventual league winners Redcar.

Against Harrogate the results went more or less to plan.

At home Jack Dyson’s rink of Duncan Wilson, Eddie Haigh and Josh Moore were always in control of their game and ran out winners by 23-12.

Terry Machen’s rink of Don Crowther, Roy Chapman and Scott Smith had to work hard for their win but came through by 19-16.

This left the overall home margin of 14 shots.

In Harrogate Colin Lloyd’s rink of Gordon Bradford, Harold Hick and Robert Beaumont had a great victory by 28-13 and although Damien Talbot’s rink of Peter Green, Josh Talbot and Graham Howe went down by 14 shots to 24, an away victory by 5 shots was a great achievement.

So Huddersfield will spend their last season in the old Sports Centre in Division 2 but hopefully they can go at least one better next season and win promotion to showcase the new Sports Centre when it is completed.

The new surface will attract even more bowlers and numerous ex-members or have joined other clubs.
