Mark Robins is happy to be focused on tomorrow’s big derby at Leeds rather than today’s January transfer window finale.

With the 11.00pm deadline looming, Town’s manager, having already brought in Nahki Wells, Joe Lolley, Harry Bunn and Sondre Tronstad, said: “I can categorically say no players will be coming in, although there may be one or two going out.”

After Town batted away Brighton’s £1m bid for key midfielder Adam Clayton, it’s believed the boss was referring to players on the edge of the first-team squad such as Jon Stead, Keith Southern and Anton Robinson, as well as younger members of the playing pool (Chris Atkinson has already been loaned to Bradford).

“Some players need games, and if opportunities arise, we will consider them, but don’t forget we also have the chance to do things a week from now (when the Football League loan window opens),” added Robins.

Town’s £1.3m former Bradford man Wells chases a third goal in four games for his new club at Elland Road tomorrow, and Robins continued: “We did our business early in the window and I am happy with it, but now is the time to step on.

“We have to pick points up away from home, and it’s time we got off that 34 mark.”

Town, currently 13th, will leapfrog Leeds, who are a place and two points above, by chalking up a third straight West Yorkshire derby victory.

The Elland Road club are at the centre of a takeover battle and there are rumours 19-goal top scorer Ross McCormack could be sold today.

Robins, having experienced periods of internal instability with both Rotherham and Coventry during his own managerial career, sympathises with opposite number Brian McDermott.

“I feel for Brian because of the things that are happening behind the scenes, and we can feel happy we have a stable ownership and environment,” added Robins.

“Leeds are a huge club and no group of supporters or staff deserve to go through any instability.”
