Huddersfield ended their season in a somewhat bittersweet manner in the Yorkshire Snooker League with a 4-2 win over Brighouse, but they were denied promotion to Division I by a point as both Wakefield I and Bradford II won their final matches.

The Canalside-based team’s Conrad Norcliffe set off strongly against Lee Roberts, staying in front all the way until Roberts got the snooker he needed on the colours and cleared up to win.

Their second bout was no different, Norcliffe laid a snooker which Roberts failed to get out of, but a jawed yellow cost Huddersfield as their opponent cleared again to take the score to 2-0.

Martyn Beck faced off against Jim Sykes, what started off as a scrappy affair Beck won the first and flourished in the second with a magnificent run of 77, he missed his last colour with 27 remaining.

Michael Whaley played Brighouse’s captain Andy Kitson, and wasted no time in winning his frames with two breaks of 41 to take a 4-2 win.

Scores: C Norcliffe v L Roberts 48-51, 67-90; M Beck v J Sykes 75-22, 90-9; M Whaley v A Kitson 84-9, 75-16.
