Grant Holt wants to help Nahki Wells carry on scoring as Huddersfield Town aim for a rare victory at Derby County.

Club-record £1.3m man Wells has notched three goals in two Championship games since returning to the starting side, taking his season's haul to nine.

On-loan Wigan Athletic man Holt joined him on the scoresheet as Nottingham Forest were downed 3-0 at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

Now former Derby player Chris Powell's side seek a second prized East Midlands scalp in four days, but know they have their work cut out at Pride Park.

Town have lost on each of their three previous visits to the venue, and were unable to record a victory in their last 17 trips to Derby's former Baseball Ground home.

Denis Law was a Town player the last time they triumphed at Derby, scoring twice in a 4-2 success in November 1957.

While 14th-placed Town head down the M1 on a seven-match unbeaten run, Steve McClaren's Derby, now fifth after leading the table earlier in the season, have lost their last two in the league.

Holt, whose loan has been extended through to the end of December, is taking nothing for granted, but is determined to do his bit, particularly in helping Wells.

“Nakhi’s got confidence and is enjoying his football," he said. "Perhaps it helps with myself being there to take some of the pressure off him.

“The more I can help him out and let him enjoy his game the better. He can be a real threat in front of goal.”

Holt and Wells have been in tandem for two games, but the frontman says Town's flexibility means no player is sure oh his place.

He added: "We can change formation and bring in different players to change games when we need to.

“The way we are working together is the most pleasing thing. And if you put all that together we can do anything.

“We’re not worried about league positions. All we want to do is win games and enjoy ourselves, but you have to be careful.

"Forest were top of the league at one stage, and now they’re gone eight games without a win, so things can change."
