Huddersfield YMCA are gearing up for their first ever home rugby league game in the summer era.

The men from Laund Hill will tomorrow host Castleford Panthers in Group 2 of the Yorkshire Men’s League (2.30) – and they couldn’t have asked for a tougher test.

While the YM opened their campaign with a 54-26 defeat at Normanton Knights a week ago, the Panthers were thrashing Scarborough Pirates 74-14.

Early-season results often have little bearing on the way the competition will eventually pan out, but YMCA manager Lee Knapton is aware his side will need to find their best form to guarantee an opening home win of 2014.

“We’ve been looking forward to this day for a while,” said Knapton.

“It would obviously be fantastic to celebrate our first home game with a win, but we know that in Cas Panthers we face a big opening home test.

“But we’re ready for the challenge.”

At the same time, Huddersfield rivals Moldgreen – a veteran of last season’s summer league – also play their first home Group 2 fixture of the season.

And they’re also hoping to register their first win of the campaign.

They went down 42-6 at Dewsbury side Shaw Cross Sharks last time out and host a Stanley Rangers side who beat Bradford Dudley Hill 24-22 at home last weekend.
