Huddersfield YMCA have formed a partnership with Halifax RLFC.

Director of rugby Damon Scholes has announced the Championship club will stage their new reserve fixtures at the rugby union club’s Laund Hill complex.

Halifax’s regular second-team night will be on Thursdays throughout the summer, meaning the YMCA base will be in use all the year round.

Huddersfield Giants have staged plenty of junior fixtures at Laund Hill in the past, which Scholes believes has counted in his club’s favour when it came to attracting a new high-profile partner.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have linked up with Halifax,” said Scholes, whose club already has strong ties with Halifax, with senior YMCA player Ed Barber on the Fax books and defence coach David Larder having been a former Fax forward.

“We had a very successful relationship with the Giants, who seemed more than happy with the way we put on fixtures for them, and I’m sure it’ll be no different for Halifax.

“It’s taken us several months of negotiations to come to this agreement, which I know will be of tremendous benefit to both parties.

“For Halifax, it’ll give them an excellent reserve base that’s near and easily accessible for the club and its supporters, while for us it gives us a platform to showcase our complex to a new audience – and generate some extra cash in the process!

“It’ll also give rugby league fans in Huddersfield some extra fixtures that will be well worth seeing during the summer months.”
