Kircho Ruscov of Huddersfield’s Gladiators Boxing Academy has impressed world champion Amir Khan!

The 29-year-old Khan, from Bolton, was on hand to present trophies at a show in Dewsbury and watched two Gladiators fighters win.

Ruscov stopped his opponent from Sheffield in just 52 seconds in the 67kg division, while Frankie Stuart, fighting at 63kg, had a points win against a boxer from Selby.

“Kircho was over the moon to meet Amir Khan, who said he had been very impressed by the young man,” explained Gladiators chairman and coach Den Doyle.

“He fought brilliantly, to be fair, never giving his opponent a look-in, and we think he’s definitely a very good prospect for the future.

“It was brilliant that Amir said he would stay in touch, that was a big thrill and a big boost for our lad.”

On Stuart’s victory, Doyle added: “His opponent brought it to him and made it really tough, but Frankie went with him really well and took a very good points decision.”

Previously, the Gladiators had a successful show at Seacroft WMC in Leeds.

Charlie Martin-Stuart of Gladiators got a unanimous decision against tough home fighter Kayden Davis of Rockwood ABC.

Martin-Stuart started positively, landing some well-timed jabs and left hooks.

His opponent then responded at the start of the second round with an aggressive attack, landing with a couple of good combinations.

The Huddersfield fighter then upped the pace, however, hurting and almost stopping his opponent – resulting in Davis receiving a standing eight count from the referee.

In the third round, Davis tired and Stuart won on all the judges’ scorecards – a great result.

Rajan Gosal also scored an excellent unanimous victory for the Gladiators against Jake Linford of Mickey's Boxing Club in Selby.

Gosal started slowly, with his opponent landing some solid straight shots.

He picked things up in the second round, though, landing some great hooks and, after some words in the corner, dominated the third round to win convincingly.

Doyle added: “Both Charlie and Rajan trained really hard for these bouts – and it showed.”
