Kirkburton Karate Club & Activity Centre has opened an extension to its Dojo at Barncliffe Mills, Shelley.

In addition to the karate classes, the activity centre also runs a ‘Fun Fitness For Kids’ class once a week.

Karate instructor Colin Hanson, who founded the club 25 years ago, explained: “The aim at Fun Fitness is to develop children’s generic skills, such as their agility, balance, co-ordination, speed, strength and stamina.

“This is done in an entertaining and interactive way through a range of multi-skill activities and exercises.

“Students learn to play independently as well as in a team. Our work encourages both co-operative and competitive play and the sessions are adapted depending on the child’s age and ability, to ensure that it is challenging yet achievable.

“Our key aims are for our students to enjoy themselves, succeed in what they do and get active!”

Sessions for children run every Saturday morning from 9.30am to 10.30 at Barncliffe Mills, Near Bank, and are for ages four and up. Sessions cost £3.50.
