Lindley WMC are the Hudderfsield Billiards and Snooker Association’s new Team Championship winners.

They saw off Milnsbridge Liberal 3-2 in a tight final at the PPG Canalside.

In the first match Lindley’s Andrew Boothroyd gave a 39 start to his opponent Chris Reynolds, from Milnsbridge Liberal and despite making a break of 30 he couldn’t bridge the gap and Reynolds won an enthralling frame 79-67.

Mohammed Naeem, of Lindley, was off -44 playing Allan Oldfield and the Milnsbridge man stretched his lead, but Naeem responded with a break of 50 to reduce the deficit and a 27 clearance saw him level the match score at 1-1 as he ran out winner 102-91.

The third frame saw Milnsbridge’s Martin Wood conceding seven to Dave Percival, but Wood had the better of the early exchanges and built up what appeared to be a winning score.

However, Percival had a 27 break which gave him the confidence to go on and win 58-44.

Lindley’s skipper Haydn Corbett hoped to seal the contest, but Milnsbridge player John Siswick made his 44 point start count as he won a titanic battle 95-71 to level at 2-2.

The deciding frame was between Jason O’Kane and Stuart Gothard, with the Lindley player giving O’Kane 58 points start.

Gothard was quickly into his stride and a break of 44 saw O’Kane’s buffer diminish.

However, O’Kane took every opportunity and the match poised on a black ball game.

Unfortunately for Milnsbridge and O’Kane, in attempting to leave the ball safe he missed and handed the frame to Gothard 97-86 and the match to Lindley 3-2.

Richard Lodge and Nigel Roebuck will contest the Holme Valley Pool League’s singles final over the best of nine frames, at Hall Bower Club on Thursday.

Royal Oak, at Upperthong, hosted the semi-finals.

Grove’s Darren Day faced Hall Bower player Lodge and Elliott Carr, of Elephant & Castle, took on Roebuck, also of Hall Bower with both matches ending in 3-1 victories.
