Linthwaite earned their passage to the semi-finals proper of the Get Smart Group Cup.

They will play Meltham Victoria in the Kirklees Sunday League knockout last four after a 1-1 draw against Dalton at Standiforth Rec which gave them an aggregate 8-5 win.

Linthwaite were on top for all the first half (playing downhill, with the wind at their backs), with Bryn Jenkins seeing a header fly just wide and Josh Shields witness a powerful shot well saved in early attacks.

On 17 minutes Declan James-Thomas made it 1-0 to Linthwaite, as their pressure told after starting the match with a 7-4 advantage.

Just on the stroke of half time, in a rare attack, Dalton levelled when they forced an own goal from a cross by Courtney Allert.

In the second half, Dalton had more opportunities playing with a 3-3-4 formation after the introduction of their substitutes, with a Hartley free-kick just flying over the bar and, later, he secrewed a shot wide when well placed, after a great back heel from JP Flynn – but the home side failed to capitalise on the chances.

Linthwaite’s defence were strong when called upon – illustrated by Daniel Walker’s brilliant saving tackle as Dalton broke through on one occasion.

In Division I of the League, Wellington A defeated Field Head 8-0 at Leeds Road Playing Fields to maintain their joint second position in the table.

Anthony Haigh put Wellington in front with a well-taken penalty to make it 1-0.

Paul Pyke added another to make it 2-0 at half time.

Adam Hill made it 3-0 early in the second half and Pyke got his second of the game to put Welly four ahead.

Field Head increased Wellington’s lead with three own goals – two were headed in from close range and the third came when Graham McLachlan ran through Head’s rearguard and shot for goal, but a defender stretched out a leg and the ball flew into the net from the edge of the box to make it 7-0.

Hill got his second of the game to round off the scoring.
