Huddersfield boxer Ismail Anwar has been handed a place alongside Dewsbury’s Gary Sykes on next month’s big London ExCel Arena show, writes Luqman Liaqat.

Holder Sykes will defend his British super-featherweight title against Cromer’s Commonwealth champion Liam Walsh on the November 29 bill, which also features Dereck Chisora.

He faces Tyson Fury for the European and British heavyweight belts while Billy Joe Saunders takes on Chris Eubanks Jnr for the European middleweight championship.

Lightweight Anwar, 23, seeks a fifth win in nine bouts when he fights Cardiff’s Romeo Romaeo, who has five wins from five.

“I have seen a bit of Romaeo and I am confident of taking him down,” said Anwar. “People look at my record (4-4) and think it isn’t the best, but my loses were all close.

“And in my last fight (against Matty Fagan in May), although I was beaten (trainer) Chris Aston said it was my best performance to date.

“I just want to show people how good I really can be and I couldn’t have a better opportunity than on the Chisora v Fury bill, when there will be a huge crowd.”

Sykes, 30, aims to put four months of injury frustration behind him (he has had a hand problem) by inflicting a first defeat on Walsh and adding the Commonwealth strap to his British belt.
