More than 300 runners take part in Shelley schools cross-country competition

Top finishers heading for event at Newsome

Shelley staged the Pyramid Schools Partnership cross-country with 300 runners taking part.

Runners from 15 schools were involved in races for both boys and girls organised by the sports co-ordinators from Shelley College, Scissett and Kirkburton Middle schools.

The 1000m race for years 2 and 3 were hosted at Shepley First school and the 1500m race for years 4 and 5 were held at Thurstonland First School.

Overall winners: Year 2 Boys – Felix Earnshaw (Thurstonland), Year 2 Girls – Isabelle Cleverley, Year 2 school: Thurstonland; Year 3 Boys – Joseph Hayes (Cumberworth), Year 3 Girls – Sylvie Ellis (Skelmanthorpe), Year 3 school: Cumberworth; Year 4 Boys – Jacob Stubbings, Year 4 Girls – Lilija Kukula (Skelmanthorpe), Year 4 school: Shelley; Year 4 Boys – Zain Tahir (Highburton), Year 4 Girls – Lucy Holland, Year 4 school: Highburton

Runners who finished in the top three of each year 4 and 5 race will go on to compete in the school games regional qualifiers at Newsome High school.
