Newsome Panthers Under 9 side were involved in a tight battle with Methley Warriors, but battled through for a win at Hall Bower in their final home game of the year.

Captain Will Lockwood won the toss and elected to play down the hill in the first half, but it was Methley who started well and threatened the Newsome line.

Good tackling from Ashley Smith, Jaden Dayes and Rhys Perrin pegged the Warriors back.

The visitors still pressed and Luke Earnshaw and James Haywood did well to hold up an attacker over the line.

The Panthers replied with a try as Haywood gained good yards and Jaiden Walker burst through for the first score.

Methley tried to hit back, but Panthers were in no mood for giving ground and Perrin took the ball deep into the Warriors half before setting up Earnshaw who cut inside and despite being tackled, was just able to reach out and score a second try for the Panthers.

Their next score came when Archie Roberts went on a great run and Alfie Reed and Smith then took possession further downfield for Lockwood to run in for another try.

Methley then grabbed their first try of the game, but Newsome carried on strongly and Cole Martyn came close to scoring before the ball was worked to Roberts, who beat two men to score a great try.

The Warriors hit straight back and their loose forward picked the ball up from dummy-half on the last tackle and scored another try but Aaron Drew then powered his way over for a Panthers try.

Early in the second half Roberts – who was voted man of the match by the Methley staff – touched the ball down for his second score of the game.

The Warriors bounced back with a well taken try, but Martyn raced through to touch the ball down for a brilliant try.

Walker strolled in for another try before Methley completed the scoring.

Newsome Panthers Under 8 side produced a great team performance as they hosted Illingworth in their final game of the season.

Louie Creaser opened the scoring for the home side before Ryan Kirrane-Perrin managed to exploit a gap and go over for a second Newsome try.

Luckas Hussain-King was next to score with an effort from close range before Jayden Myers stepped through to add to the try-scoring.

Ethan Buckley showed Newsome can attack from anywhere as he broke from his own half for another try.

After half time Connor Emerson drove over the line carrying a defender with him to add to Newsome’s score and Malachai Macenzie added to his impressive try tally.

Kerrane-Perrin added his second and Jayden Myers broke through to add his second try of the game, stepping inside to open up the space and bring the game to a close.
