FC Halifax fans are hoping in-form marksman Lee Gregory can carry his goalscoring form into the FA Cup.

Neil Aspin’s side visit Nuneaton on Saturday in the fourth qualifying round looking for a plum progression – and hat-trick hero Gregory could be the man to provide it.

The 25-year-old former Mansfield goal-getter bagged a first-half treble to help the Shaymen extend their unbeaten home record to nine Skrill Premier matches against Welling United.

Midfielder Lois Maynard says Gregory’s form is “unbelievable” and it’s provided a big tonic for the whole squad.

“As a midfielder, when you look up you want an option and Lee Gregory is always there,” said Maynard.

“He showed that by always being in space on Saturday and he scored three goals.”

Maynard believes the win was vital to stop FC Halifax slipping further into mid-table.

“It was extremely critical. If we had lost then we would have been further away from where we want to be,” explained Maynard, aware his side now face four successive away trips. “The win against Welling was the perfect response as in recent games we’ve been a little unlucky and, perhaps, not concentrated as well as we could have.”

Gregory now has eight goals to his credit in 11 appearances.

Brighouse Town are in Northern Counties East League Premier action against Winterton Rangers at the Dual Seal tonight (7.45).
