Old Earth at Elland is to stage a major representative fixture on Saturday.

The home of Huddersfield Amateur FC will host the match between the Yorkshire Amateur League and the Amateur Football Combination League.

It’s a 2pm kick-off for the 56th annual match between the Yorkshire representative side and the team from London.

The Combination has a base of almost 100 clubs and 350 teams and is believed to be the largest adult league in Europe.

The Yorkshire Amateur League has a mere 46 clubs with 91 teams.

The representative teams compete for the Jerry Hildersley Trophy with the competition conducted in the same way as the cricket Ashes.

A draw will not be enough for Yorkshire on Saturday as the Combination hold the trophy thanks to a 2-1 win in Redbridge last season.

Mark Reid is manager of the Yorkshire Amateur league side with Dr Stephen Ledger providing invaluable assistance.
