The North of England’s top young Gaelic footballers were on show in Huddersfield when Brothers Pearse held a club day at their Colne Valley High School base.

The hosts, John F Kennedy’s, St Lawrence’s and a Lancashire select side took part in an Under 16 seven-a-side ‘blitz’ competition.

Brothers Pearse senior team manager DominicMcKenna, a keen hurler, originally from Down, then staged a Poc Fada (hit the sliotar with a hurley) and Kick Fada (kick the ball) contest.

The pitch was marked and the distance where each ball stopped measured by Brothers Pearse club officials John Lambe and Ollie Walsh.

Club stalwart and joint Under 16 manager Paul O’Conner started proceedings with fine efforts from both the boot and the hurley – some others were not so skilled!

Poc Fada: 1 Dave Sullivan, 2 Owen O’Briain, 3 Michael Maguire (Brothers Pearse senior club captain).

Kick Fada: 1 George Kitchen (Brothers Pearse Under 16 goalkeeper), 2 Darragh Sheehy, 3 Martin Folan (Brothers Pearse senior goalkeeper).

The Brothers Pearse senior team then took on Derby side St Josephs in a challenge match which the hosts won by two points (2-8 to 1-9).
