Three siblings from Holmfirth Harriers helped England retain their British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championship and Home Countries International crown.

Lucy and Erica Byram were running for their country for the first time and were running in the Under 17 race, even though they are both just past their 15th birthdays.

The whole team ran very well over the tough course in Ireland, with teammate Fiona Bunn taking second, backed up by Lucy in third, Elizabeth Greenwood in fifth and Erica in sixth. The Under 17 boys took team bronze.

Brother Lewis was in the Under 20 men’s race, which was a close battle between all the home nations.

But England took team gold again with Jack Willis fourth, Liam Burthem fifth and Lewis in ninth, securing the England team win.

The Under 20 Women also took team gold.

The Holmfirth trio, who live in Marsden, who had great runs at the qualifying event at the end of August, are coached at the club by Kath Farquhar.

England’s Juniors retained the overall team trophy they won last year in Scotland. They won the team race in three out of four events at the course in Glendalough.
