Longwood Harriers had three athletes representing the club at the 2015 Yorkshire Cross Country Championships and the trio all produced promising performances.

The event was staged at Lightwater Valley near Ripon, on one of the windiest days of the year and the athletes had to battle tricky conditions, as well as sleet and snow showers.

The day started with the Under 13 girls section and Longwood’s Alex Walker ran a great race to finish in 68th position in a time of 13 minutes.

The final races of the day were in the senior category with Longwood’s Kirsty Leih running in the women’s race and James Scholes in the men’s section.

Leih, running in her first Yorkshire trials event as a senior athlete, managed to finish in 145th place with a time of 35.50.

The senior men, who were running over an 11km course, produced a very competitive contest and Scholes finished in 209th place in a time of 55.46.
