Holmfirth Harriers gained a crucial Northern Track and Field League victory at Carlisle to bolster their bid to retain Second Division status.

They collected 13 individual event wins plus a relay success for an overall total of 372 points.

They beat Leigh, Seaton, Bolton, Bury and Burnley & Pendle.

And going into match three, which Holmfirth will host at Wakefield on July 13, they are in fourth place overall, with Bolton leading the table.

The rainy conditions meant times and distances thrown were of less importance than the points gained from the athletes’ positions.

Forrmer English Schools champion Jordan Toth won the100m and 200m A races with times of 11.0 and 22.7secs and Will Lander the 200m B in 23.8secs.

Debutant Lavell Pierre won the 800m B in 2min 02.2sec, Richard Smith the 1500m B in 4-16 and Stuart Sharp the 5,000m B in 16-05.

In the women’s section, Sophie Spencer won the 400m A in 63.7secs.

Claire Leaver ran well to win the 3000m B in 10min 58.2sec while Olivia Sykes (right) was 1500m A winner in 4min 38.3sec.

There were doubles for Katie Zientek and Katie Franklin.

Zientek took the B discus with 19.11m and B javelin with 26.71m.

Franklin, in fine form, set new personal bests to win the A discus with 23.21m and the B high jump.

Holmfirth were able to field their best team of sprint relay specialists for the 4x100m and Harvey Woodhead, Faisal Shah, Lander and Jordan Toth took the maximum points with 46secs.
