Holmfirth Harriers’ Rich Mcleod took a silver medal in the European Duathlon Championships in Kalkar, Germany.

One of four British runners in the Paraduathlon, Mcleod finished runner-up in the PT3 over the 5k run, 20k bike ride and 2.5k run.

He ran 21min 23sec for the first run and, after a 1.14 transition, clocked 36.35 on the bike.

Mcleod’s second transition was 1.23 and he completed the second run in 11.42 for a total time of 1-12.17.

His GB colleagues in the other Para competitions also all picked up silver medals. The only man to finish ahead of Mcleod in PT3 was Spain’s Joaquin Carrasco (1-09.11).

On a flat course but in windy conditions, Mcleod had two other Holmfirth competitors to check on.

Agonisingly, Craig Boggon finished fourth, just eight seconds off a podium place, in the Male 20-24 category.

Boggon’s total time was a tremendous 1-59.26, with 36.27 for the 10k run, 1-01.59 for the 40k bike ride and 19.21 for the 5k finishing run.

Lewis Byram was the second Brit home in 11th place in the elite Junior Men’s race.
