Champion Mike Tolman launched the  defence of his Sellers International Huddersfield Open tennis title in impressive style.

The No3 seed  and Huddersfield  member defeated  Abubaker Rawat  of Middlesex  without dropping a game to  progress to the  second-round  stage at Edgerton  tomorrow night.

He will face  one of the club  coaches, Aidan  Robson, who  went through by  beating Alec  Setalvad 6-4 6-4.

Former Town player  Alan Lee went out to  Huddersfield’s Bradley  Bond to one and love, so is  now concentrating on the  doubles with partner  Oliver Moorhouse.

The top two seeds also  went through in the men’s,  as did No4 Ben Crichton,  who beat Nikolai Duffy 6-2  6-1.

In the 14 and Under  boys, Huddersfield’s Euan  Wilson-Baig put out the  No5 seed Andre Earnshaw  of Sheffield to make it  through to the  quarter-finals.

Wilson-Baig won 10-7 in  a match tie-break after the  sets had gone 4-6 6-1.

Top seeds Conor  Tordoff, James Bloomer  and Paul Jubb are all  through in that section.  Wilson-Baig plays Lewis  Denton of Lancashire in  the last eight.

Huddersfield’s Joe  Johnson made it through  to the semi-finals of the  consolation even in the  same age group.

The 14 and Under girls  final could be an all  Scottish affair between  sisters Charlotte and  Jessica Mair.

Charlotte, however, will  have to overcome No1 seed  Olivia Peet if she is to reach  the showpiece, while  Jessica is up against  Huddersfield’s Katie  Morton in the last four.

A third Mair sister,  Jennifer, is competing in  the 18 and Under section.

In the 14s, Stephanie  Carter (Huddersfield/  Thongsbridge) is into the  semi-finals of the  consolation event.
