And they’re off!

Seven Huddersfield swimmers have arrived at the Special Olympics GB National Games, which gets underway on Tuesday night at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.

The group – Zoe Rank, Aisling Connelly, Rebekah Hill, Joanne Kempley, Ruben Reuter, Jack Drennan and Emily McKevitt – are all members of Borough of Kirklees Disability Squad and will represent Yorkshire and Humberside at the five-day event, at which around 2,600 athletes will compete.

Mum Alison Rank who, along with Gemma Hill-Wood, Olivia Davies, Mary Connelly and Eddie Lim, has taught the group, said the septet was raring to go.

“They will take it in their stride, but we parents are total wrecks!” she laughed.

“We are very much looking forward to it and will be cheering them on.”
