DEFENDING champion Matthew Pierson is aiming to push for a new record time – and cash bonus – in this year’s Huddersfield 10k Road Race.

Huddersfield Road runners are staging the event for the 23rd time from their Lockwood Park headquarters on Sunday, February 26 (11am).

The record time has stood at 32min 45sec since the first race from Lockwood Park in 1997 and Pierson would love to not only pick up the £100 winning cheque, but also the equivalent prize for a new best time.

Entries are already approaching 500 and the cut-off is 600 for safety and practical reasons.

It will be a packed line-up again and there’s every chance the race list will be full, so potential participants should get in quick because there will be no entries on the day.

The team event should be strong, with competition among Wakefield Triathlon Club, Stadium Runners, Holmfirth Harriers and Meltham AC.

The race always gets excellent support from local runners of all abilities, and in many cases is their regular mid-winter workout.
