EIGHT-times champion Tony Clegg will face the ‘young pretender’ Matthew Peaker in the final of this year’s Huddersfield Billiards Championship.

Clegg defeated Peaker’s father David 500-415 in the semi-final after running out with an unfinished break of 52, having had his one-time 120-point lead cut back to just 30.

In the other semi-final, Peaker junior, from Brockholes BC, knocked out reigning champion Rob Armitage from Springwood BC 500-462 in a see-saw battle.

The holder started off the stronger of the two with three breaks in the 30s helping him to an 85-point lead, but Peaker hit back with breaks of 69 and 68, Armitage had a best effort of 51, the Brockholes player also having half a dozen in the 30s and finally edged out to win by 38 points.

The two Peakers, along with Steve Whiteley, ended their Yorkshire League season with a 7-0 win over Bradford to finish as League runners-up to Leeds.

Matthew beat Nigel Stebbings 200-89, David beat Steve Kershaw 200-152, while Steve defeated Watson 200-137.
