Kyle Chisholm believes he left the British Swimming Championships stronger than ever after he ended up with two second-place finishes.

The Borough of Kirklees swimmer was kept busy at the London Aquatics Centre after making his way into the junior 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly finals.

He kicked off with a time of 1.49.9 minutes in his penultimate swim of the meet to take second behind Cameron Kurle in the freestyle.

And he managed to shake off the tiredness for 54.97 seconds as he took another runner-up spot in the butterfly – Luke Greenbank finishing first in 54.92.

But there was no sign of disappointment as Chisholm finished his final race, instead he was buoyed by the prospect of returning stronger in a year’s time.

“I’m really happy with that race to be honest I didn’t know I was that close to first to be honest. It’s the last race of the week,” he said.

“It’s been tough and I just came out of the 200 free to race in this and I came second in that as well so what more can I ask for really.

“The 200 took a bit out of me but me and my coach have been working on endurance all season so it was those ten metres where I had to dig deep.

“It gets you prepared for when you go abroad and race internationally which is really important experience.”

If the youngster needed any inspiration to come back bigger and better than ever then he got it as he watched Adam Peaty smash the 100m breaststroke world record.

And Chisholm says that Peaty’s performance was a special moment that all of Britain’s young swimmers can learn from.

“The experience has been awesome, this is my second British Championships" he added.

“Last year didn’t go quite as we planned but this year we have done good.

“Adam’s performance was unbelievable and it just shows that all the hard work he puts in pays off and we need to follow in his footsteps.

“I think it shows that no matter what event you are competing in it is all about hard work.

“If you get in the pool and work hard then you can get where you want to be and put up the kind of times that you dream of putting up.”
