BOROUGH of Kirklees swimmers produced a strong performance at the recent North Eastern Region senior and junior Championships held in Sunderland.

The clubs’ senior squad were well represented with six swimmers making the open age finals.

The swimmers were Matthew Hinchliffe, who reached the final in five events, Daniel Cross went through in three, Regen Gregg and Hannah Pilling each made two finals, and James Reidy and Rebecca Fisher made one.

The senior squad swimmers also enjoyed a good medal haul with Cross leading the way, winning gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Reidy won silver in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and 200m Individual Medley.

Hinchliffe took silver in the 200m backstroke.

The North Eastern Age Group Championships were held at the same time where the Clubs younger swimmers had similar success.

Gold medal winners were Kyle Chisholm who won a five golds, a silver and a bronze, while Harry Wood bagged a gold and three silvers.

Matthew Wilby won a gold and a bronze, as did Harrison Layden-Fritz.

Other medal winners were Rebecca Thornton, silver and two bronze, who also achieved her first national qualifying time, Thomas Eastwood (silver and bronze), Eden Warburton (silver), Samuel Loizou (silver) and Katie Scott (bronze).

The club also had 22 swimmers amassing astaggering 56 top 10 finishes throughout all age groups.
