MATTHEW HINCHLIFFE led the way for Borough of Kirklees Swimming Club when they attended the North Eastern Region Swimming Championships in Sunderland.

Hinchliffe achieved a silver medal in the men’s open 200m backstroke event while also making the final in the open 100m backstroke and the 200m and 400m freestyle.

In his own age group, the swimmer won gold in the 200m backstroke and a bronze for the 100m backstroke.

Regan Gregg reached four individual open finals, competing in the 110m and 200m breaststroke, the 50m backstroke and the 400m individual medley.

In his first senior championships Daniel Cross reached the final of the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events while Alex Fisher made the final of the women’s open 50m backstroke.

The club’s youth sides were also in action in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle and the 4x100m medley.

The boys youth team finished in the top 10 in each event while the girls finished in the top 10 of the 4x100m medley and the 4x200m freestyle.

Leeds, Sheffield, Harrogate and Wrexham have all been destinations for the club’s younger children, as they have competed in a number of galas, picking up medals and personal bests.

The club will now look forward to the North Eastern Region Age Group Championships which will be held next month.
