The Huddersfield & District Bowling Association have been boosted with a new sponsorship deal.

The League Competition will be backed by CarGo of Huddersfield.

The league have released the programme of competition and League dates for the approaching season, which commences on April 18.

Steve Tattersall, who has held the presidential chain for the last three years, moves on to become Deputy President of the Yorkshire County Crown Green Bowling Association.

Stepping into his shoes for 2015 is Andrew Wadsworth, who will combine his competition secretary’s duties with his new role, in which he will be assisted by Dougie Mellor as his deputy president.

The other top table seats of secretary and treasurer and league fixtures secretary will continue in the hands of Jean Wrathall and Neil Hinchliffe – with able assistance from website manager Adam Douglas.

The executive are actively looking for new blood to assist in the running of the Association and anyone wishing to become involved should make themselves known to any of the officers above.

Jack Dyson won the Geoff Sigsworth Memorial Trophy competition kindly sponsored by Graham Sigsworth.

Club president Alan Hirst thanked all those who had stayed to watch the final which had been played in atrocious conditions, both finalists having played extremely well in the challenging conditions all day.

Hirst then asked Graham Sigsworth to comment on the competition, and he endorsed all that Hirst had said and then went on to elaborate on some of what Geoff Sigsworth had done during his long association at the Griffin.

He mentioned his contribution to the Paul Sigsworth Stand, the provision of toilet block facilities, also his generous sponsorship of numerous competitions over 20 years, finally Graham stated that Geoff had been an exceptional gentleman.

Graham then presented the prize monies and to the winner a cheque for £180 and the trophy to Dyson, who responded by saying he also thanked everyone involved in the competition, Dyson said he was delighted with his first win this season and was proud to have won this competition and said that the Sigsworth name will always be held in the highest esteem at the Griffin.

The draw has been made for preliminary rounds of the Bernard Sigsworth Memorial Competition – sponsored by the Sigsworth family.

The competition opens on Sunday (11am) with the second set of preliminary round matches on Sunday, March 8, with four qualifying for the redrawn final on March 15, playing for a prize fund of £630.

The achievements keep coming this season for Huddersfield’s indoor bowlers.

In a season that could be their last, it promises to be one of their most successful.

Damien Talbot came through a difficult qualifying event at York IBC and is now in the final against top county bowler Stan Thomson from Hull.

Talbot will been joined on finals day by Scott Smith and Josh Moore who came through an epic semi-final at Featherstone, scoring four on the last end to win 21-20.

Finals day is at Selby Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday, March 8.

Following this success, the Huddersfield double rinks team, skippered by Jack Dyson and Damien Talbot, competed valiantly to come through their group as winners, but fell just one win short at the final hurdle against Featherstone.

The annual general meeting and prize-giving evening will take place at Canalside in the Radcliffe suite on Wednesday, April 1s (7.15pm).

The Colne Valley League’s 2015 annual general meeting will be held at Milnsbridge Liberal Club Wednesday, March 4 (7.45 pm).

THE popular Enid Blackburn Trophy competition for ladies will take place at Linthwaite Hall Bowling Club on Sunday, March 22.

It’s a 10am start and entry is £5, with details from S Dillingham (01484 846331).

There will be 32 bowlers, with no home bowlers, and food is available throughout the day.
