JACK DYSON won his third Griffin Sixteen of the season.

He was pushed all the way by club president Robbie Fitzpatrick, who narrowly missed out 21-19 in the final on becoming the first Liverpudlian ever to win a competition at the Colne Valley club.

The showpiece – sponsored by Steve Hirst – looked to be all over when Dyson powered into a 17-12 lead, but Fitzpatrick fought back to lead 19-17 and put himself within touching distance of the title.

But Dyson regained his composure to close it out with a couple of twos.

Fitzpatrick remains determined to join the Griffin winners’ list while everyone in the competition thanked greenkeeper Eddie Haigh for the magnificent condition of the surface.

Despite almost continuous rain in three days of the build-up, he had the green playing exceptionally well, and his care and skill was lauded by the whole field of players.
