A STRONG contingent from Moldgreen Conservative Club feature prominently in Sunday’s Colne Valley Merit final.

And joining them are three previous winners – Ashley Daykin (1997), Paul Ingleby (1990) and Mark Sykes (2003 and 2004) – who will all be vying for the title.

The final takes place at Golcar Liberal Club on Sunday at 2.00.

Andrew Wike was the winner of the Huddersfield Conservative League’s Horace Walker Handicap final at Netherton Con after a 21-8 victory against Adrian Cooper.

The final 16 of the Naylor Wintersgill sponsored £5,000 Brighouse Classic takes place on Saturday and another top class field has been assembled.

Graeme Wilson and Andy Cairns meet in the last 16 of a top sweep for the second week running but they will face stiff competition from double All England champion Andrew Spragg, previous Hill Crest champion Jim Derby and Congleton’s Chris MacDonald.

Last Friday’s heat was cancelled due to bad weather and will now be played tomorrow when the last two qualifiers will be known.

The final 16 starts at 5.30 on Saturday with the usual hot food and drinks available.
