Graham Hickey and David Scott picked up the £500 first prize after defeating Tommy Johnstone and Stuart Goodwin 21-17 in the final of the Hill Crest Open, sponsored by Grosvenor Butchers.

The winners started in fine style against the young Yorkshire stars Ian Booth and James Hanson winning 21-20.

Paul Demetriades and Barry Collinge beat Billy Smythe and Frank Griffin 21-9 in their first game to set up a semi-final clash with the eventual winners. It was all one-way traffic as Hickey and Scott took only 15 ends to win 21-10, including the highest break (12) to earn themselves another £20.

Johnstone and Goodwin got through their semi 21-20.

In the final there was never anything between them until, at 17 across, Hickey and Scott scored a couple of pairs to claim the trophy.

Competition organiser Dennis Hartley and Arthur Dow from sponsors Grosvenors Butchers presented the prizes.

Latest qualifiers in the Mirfield Old Bank Autumn Double are Paul Dudley and Jimmy Derby (Radcliffe), who beat Stuart Goodwin and Carl Armitage (Warrington) 58-43. They take the last place in the intermediate stages on Thursday September 27.

Also through are Darren Plenderleith and Ant Aldridge (Tamworth), who beat Charlie Weaver and Andy Duckett (Shrewsbury) 55-36. They are the first qualifiers to the semi-finals and final night on Monday October 1.
