The Griffin stages the second preliminary round of the Bernard Sigsworth Memorial competition on Sunday (11am) to decide the next four qualifiers.

The competition is generously sponsored by the Sigsworth family, and competitors are playing for a prize fund of £630 with the winner receiving £250 and the prestigious trophy.

The four qualifiers from the first preliminary rounds for the redrawn final on Sunday, March 15, are Gary Siswick, Ray Whitwam, Mark Sykes and Andy Cairns.

The Yorkshire Crown Green Referees Society are to start a series of seminars.

The meetings are being held to help anyone interested in learning the laws of the game or would like to take the British Crown Green Referees Society examination with a view to becoming referees.

It is advisable to attend all sessions for anyone wishing to take the exam and progress to becoming referee.

They start tonight at the Bradley & Colnebridge WMC (7.30-9.30pm) and on the following Thursdays on March 12 and 19.

The examination will be held on Saturday, March 21 (10am).
