EDWARD HAIGH, of Newsome WMC, is the champion of the Huddersfield Veterans Bowling Association’s Select Players competition.

Haigh went into an early lead with a single and four pairs before running out a comfortable 21-11 winner against Golcar Liberal Club’s Frank Greenwood.

In the semi-finals Greenwood pulled away from Newsome’s John Shaw to win 21-17 after the scores had been 7-7, 13-13 and 17-17, while in the other semi, Haigh defeated last year’s winner Frank Griffin, of Waterloo, 21-11.

The event, for players featuring in the veterans’ Inter-District squads, was sponsored by Frank Greenwood and the prizes were presented by League secretary Tommy Dunford who thanked hosts Lindley Bowling Club on their excellent facilities and a wonderful buffet tea.
